Homestead: your home's maintenance plan, written for you
A home and property manager app that turns "tell us about your home" into a personalized seasonal maintenance plan — iOS, Android, and web, ready in about four minutes, with your data staying on your device. Built end-to-end by Smart Site Services.

The challenge
Homeownership runs on remembering — filters, flushes, seals, inspections — and most maintenance apps are either nagging chore lists or dusty document vaults. Homestead needed to feel like a coach: tell it your home's age, systems, and climate zone, and get a plan that explains what to do, why it matters, and how to do it right — without guilt-tripping the user.
The strategy
We designed and engineered Homestead as a cross-platform app (iOS, Android, and browser from one codebase) with a local-first architecture — plans generate on-device and data stays there. The product design is deliberate: a warm, encouraging visual language, reward-driven feedback instead of red badges, and onboarding that produces a complete seasonal plan in minutes with no account required.
Outcome
- A complete maintenance plan generated in about four minutes
- No account required to start; user data stays on the device
- Shipped to the App Store, Google Play, and the browser from one codebase
- A product experience designed to encourage, never nag
Homestead is product thinking all the way down: a real problem (homes quietly falling behind on care), an opinionated answer (a coach, not a vault), and the engineering to ship it across three platforms with privacy as a feature. When we say we build products, this is what we mean.
